For centuries, on a far-flung black-magic island in the Indonesian archipelago, indigenous women have been using an ancient weaving technique to create rangrang fabric from cotton threads.

Traditionally made to wear as sarongs for Hindu ceremonies, the women would gather flowers, leaves and the bark of mango trees to create dyes before hand-weaving the thread on a wooden loom into their distinctive motifs.

The sacred skills of this community have been endangered by modernization but the creation of the Pulau Poncho has helped preserve this artisanship. 

A single length of fabric for one Pulau Poncho takes months to make and no two pieces can ever be the same.

The Pulau Poncho is just as perfect worn on the beach over a bikini or layered with cashmere and jeans in the city.
