SOUQ Bali's ikat napkins are made from a cotton cloth which is woven on wooden hand-operated looms. This fabric is known as 'endek' and is a traditional textile craft of the Balinese.
The painstaking process of weaving endek begins with first dyeing the yarn with the exact spacing of colours required to create the ikat patterns once it is woven together. After dyeing, it takes one weaver a full day to create just one metre of fabric as the ikat motif magically appears from the dyed yarn.
These textile skills create this stunning sophisticated fabric that enrich the aesthetic of a beautifully-laid dining table and also represent an investment in an important part of the cultural heritage of Bali.
Note that due to the nature of hand-weaving and small production batches of the fabric, the woven ikat motif or pattern may differ slightly from the image pictured.
