A stunning heirloom piece truly deserving of pride of place; it could be used as a wall-hanging, bed runner, admired every day draped on the back of a chair or transformed into cushions.
This rich fabric has wonderful provenance. Pak Wim inherited his grandfather’s weaving factory in Bali where skilled women had been hand-weaving traditional sarongs for decades. After studying textile design at university he was determined to continue his family’s textile legacy but with a contemporary and inspired direction; to modernize the production and bring the flair of a new generation.
This beautiful piece is one of the manifestations of his vision - made on a wooden loom in the traditional way of ‘rangrang’ fabric with the distinctive holes in the weaving but with more modern geometric patterns and ‘pile’ to give the fabric texture. The perfect synergy of the old world and the new: heritage skills and contemporary design.
It takes weeks to months to produce a single piece of this fabric and every piece is a unique one-off; something to be passed down through generations.
